God’s Boxes

I have in my hands two boxes which God gave me to hold.
He said, “Put all your sorrows in the black,
And all your joys in the gold.”

I heeded His words, and in the two boxes,
Both my joys and sorrows I stored.
But though the gold became heavier each day
The black was as light as before
With curiosity, I opened the black.
I wanted to find out why
And I saw, in the base of the box, a hole
Which my sorrows had fallen out by
I showed the hole to God, and mused aloud,
“I wonder where my sorrows could be.”

He smiled a gentle smile at me.
“My child, they’re all here with me.”
I asked, “God, why give me the boxes,
Why the gold, and the black with the hole?”

“My child, the gold is for you to count your blessings,
The black is for you to let go.”

July 2nd Closing of Iffy’s Paintings Auction: An Update

Thanks to everyone who bid. Iffy is beyond excited about his painting gaining such a following.

The auction raised over 500.00 in donations and the winners are being contacted by friend of the family, Kelly Moore, to arrange for delivery. God bless everyone who participated tenfold.

June 29th Benefit: An Update

On June 29, 2010, EJ’s Neighborhood Pizzeria & Italian Eatery hosted a benefit coordinated by Kelly and Andy Moore.

During the event, EJ’s customers, family/friends of Iffy and other supporters fellowshipped over good pizza, prayed, bid on Iffy’s paintings and contributed to the Benefit Fund. EJ’s contributed 15% of the night’s sales to the family and donations of baby items were presented to Ziggy. Over $1,500.00 dollars was raised.

Ziggy made it to the latter part of the benefit after briefly leaving the hospital to attend. Iffy and his family were overwhelmed by the support. It was a wonderfully blessed event. Visit “A Family’s Journey Through Cancer’s” FaceBook Page for event photos (The Family of Ziggy Jones’s Photos – Ziggy Jones Benefit – June 29, 2010).

Media Coverage:

Recently Shar-day Campbell, a local marketing and communications consultant and close friend of Ziggy Jones, lent her media relations expertise to “A Family’s Journey Through Cancer.”

As a result of her efforts, Local KPRC 2 featured the family in a promotional interview about the June 29th benefit at EJ’s Neighborhood Pizzeria & Italian Eatery. Ryan Korsgar, KPRC morning anchor, conducted a wonderful interview with the family. View link for news coverage– www.click2houston.com/video/24052232/index.html.

After following up with the KPRC news team regarding Iffy’s condition and the immediate need for the family to move into another home, the station contacted a few local moving companies.  Thankfully, A1 Best Movers graciously volunteered their services. When featured on Local 2 about his company’s generosity, A1 Best Movers’ owner, David Hernandez, shared that he believes in the spirit of helping those in need. Thanks to the generosity of Local KPRC 2, EJ’s Pizzeria and A1 Best Movers, some of the family’s burdens have been lifted.

Words are inadequate to express a sincere amount of gratitude to everyone who has donated their time, resources and money to helping Iffy’s family. It just goes to prove that God will raise up individuals on your behalf. From the far east to the far west, He uses who He chooses. My God is an awesome God. All praises to Him for using you all to help Iffy and his family.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

The Storm Rages

Author: ziggy

We’ve been in the hospital for 4 days now.  What started as a routine visit to the clinic for blood work and CT Scan results has evolved into the biggest fight of Iffy’s life.

I received a call on Friday from Iffy’s oncologist stating that the CT scans did not look good.  They told me that my baby has holes in his skull from the cancer eating away at his bones.  The space between his mouth and nose is nothing but tissue.  They don’t even know how he’s been able to eat.

His sinuses are completely gone, and he has holes in his spine and pelvis.  His trachea has been invaded.  Where he should have at least a diameter of 1 cm in order to breathe, Iffy’s airway is measuring less than 3 mms.  This is even more dangerous because his nose and sinuses are completely blocked. They say his airway could constrict, and he could die at anytime. They want to do a tracheostomy to force open his airway.

His heart rate is dangerously low, and frankly, the doctors don’t know how he’s still going.

BUT I DO.  MY GOD IS AN AWESOME GOD!!!!  MY GOD IS MERCIFUL!!!!  AND MY GOD IS IN CONTROL!!!

In this moment, I beg for your prayers and your positive energy.  I beg you to keep us in your thoughts.  I beg you to pray fervently for my child and the other children here on this floor who are suffering.  I beg for your compassion and your passion, because frankly, this is not a time for apathy or false sympathy.  I am afraid, I am terrified, I am exhausted, and I am lost.  But for Iffy’s sake, I go on.

I thank you for your participation in following our story.  Andy, Kelly, Shar-Day, I love and appreciate you for all you’ve done and continue to do.  Iffy sends his love, and we’ll see you all soon.

Sometimes, God will quiet the storm and soothe the child.  Sometimes, God will let the storm rage, and quiet the child.  God, I’m humbly submit to your will.  And in this moment, I wait for you to move and work on my son’s behalf.  Amen, Amen, and Amen again.
